Garrett Giantonio
Originally from Newington, Connecticut, Garrett is a seasoned trumpeter and educator with a wealth of experience in both performance and teaching. Since earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut, he has dedicated himself to performing and instructing trumpet across the state. Garrett is passionate about providing exceptional performances and education, whether he's on stage or in the classroom.
Based in central Connecticut, Garrett is a distinguished trumpeter throughout the Tri-State area. He regularly performs with prestigious groups and venues including The Goodspeed Opera House, The Hartford Jazz Orchestra, The Rob Zappulla Orchestra, Souls on Fire, Seven Angels Theater, the Ivoryton Playhouse, and others. Outside of his performances, Garrett is a dedicated producer and audio engineer, frequently working on recording horn sections and various commercial projects.
In addition to his vibrant performing career, Garrett is a devoted music educator. He currently serves as the band director at Jared Eliot Middle School in Clinton, CT, where he leads the concert bands, jazz band, and general music program. Garrett also co-chairs the Southern Region Middle School Jazz Ensemble. Beyond his work in Clinton, he plays a significant role in the marching arts, instructing several high school marching bands throughout Connecticut and has been on staff with world-class drum corps.
Garrett teaches a diverse group of private trumpet students, many of whom take part in the CMEA Regional and All-State Festivals. He is also a sought-after consultant and clinician for various groups across the state.
Garrett is a co-director and founding member of both the Affinity Big Band and the Affinity Horns.
