Evan Gray

Born and raised in Connecticut, Evan Gray is a trombonist and educator with extensive experience in performance and education. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University. Evan is committed to delivering high-level performances and instruction, both on stage and in the classroom.

Based in Middletown, CT, Evan Gray is an accomplished trombonist active in the Tri-State area. His performances include notable venues such as Dizzy’s Club, Infinity Music Hall, and Carnegie Hall. Evan is a regular member of esteemed groups like the Hartford Jazz Orchestra, New London Big Band, and The Rob Zappulla Orchestra. He is also the founder of the Affinity Big Band, comprised of some of Connecticut's young jazz educators and professionals. Dedicated to excellence in both performance and education, Evan and the Affinity Big Band aim to enrich the jazz community through high-caliber performances and educational outreach efforts.

In addition to his active career as a performer, Evan is a dedicated music educator. Currently, he serves as the band director at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden, CT, where he directs the band, jazz, and applied music programs. Under his leadership, the Lincoln Jazz band has achieved notable success, including winning the middle school division of the 2022 Virtual National Jazz Festival and participating in numerous state festivals. Evan is currently the CMEA Southern Region Co-Director and chairperson for the Southern Region Middle School Jazz Ensemble. Beyond his role at Lincoln, Evan is a respected trombone instructor, guiding students who have earned placements in prestigious all-state and all-national ensembles, as well as acceptance into major music schools nationwide. Additionally, Evan serves as an ensemble coach for the Hall High School Jazz program and actively contributes as a clinician to various music programs across Connecticut.
